The Story Behind Ratchet II Righteous
The name and the brand started from a car ride and multiple conversations with friends. On Dec 31st, 2018, while I was on my way to a "Watchnight Service" at Elevation church (this is a service that occurs at night on the last day of the year at most churches) I made a post on my personal Facebook account, stating the following...
"I'ma probably be heading over to church with some Cardi B on; but you BESTA believe I'ma leave with that Marvin Sapp "Never Would've Made It"
Coincidently; the Watchnight service that night was entitled, "Came Through Drippin". For anyone who is aware of the song, then you are probably already know that the artist who raps it, is none other than Cardi B, with a feature by the Migos. Now, I have no prior knowledge of what any message is going to be on any given Sunday, but the irony and timing of my post and the message was interesting to say the least.
However, what was most poignant, was not just the title of the sermon, but the message behind it. There was a spiritual flip presented to an otherwise, secular song. The message focused on an all too familiar story in Exodus (14: 26 - 29) where God delivered the people of Israel from Pharaoh and his army, by parting the Red Sea. To the Israelites, the situation of crossing a sea on dry land and unscathed, may have seemed unfathomable; but to God it was an opportunity to show his immeasurable power.
"Came through drippin" represents the tumultuous places in our lives that God has managed to bring us out of despite the circumstances, and we've been blessed on the other side. Against all odd's we've come out, dripping in God's Grace, his Mercy, Love, Favor, Blessings, and so forth.
Nonetheless; what I saw in that message and from the ironic timing of my Facebook post, was that I (like many others) was a blend of both Ratchetness and Righteousness. We are a people who love God, yet we are not bound by religion...but more so a spiritual relationship with the Father. We may not always get it right, but the beauty is that we keep trying to despite our shortcomings, and we are constantly evolving for the better.
